Pride In Craftsmanship

Made In USA

John Boos products are manufactured with over 125 years of experience and expert knowledge in woodworking and craftsmanship. Boos butcher blocks come from premium quality, renewable and sustainably harvested hardwoods from the North American Great Lakes region. Boos Blocks are manufactured in Effingham, IL.

Lumber Grading

John Boos expert craftsmen sort every piece of lumber based on the grade and color of the wood. This process is completed by hand and every piece of lumber is graded to ensure their customers receive only the best quality products.

Dry Kilns

On-site dry kilns allow John Boos to maintain and monitor the amount of moisture content found in each piece of lumber.

Handcrafting Butcher Blocks

After the lumber is removed from the dry kilns, they are surfaced planed, cut into strips, laid up side by side and then glued on both sides to be surfaced and sanded. Once the sanding is completed, the craftsmen use machines to route the shape of each product. The products then goes through another process of sanding by hand. Their attention to detail ensures that the final product focuses on a tradition of quality, craftsmanship, and design.

NHLA Sustainable

For over 50 years John Boos maintains a current NHLA (National Hardwood Lumber Association) Sustainability Certificate. As a NHLA member, the company is committed to sustainable forestry and has efforts in place, practiced an on-going basis, which embraces the certificate's statements on sustainability in the manufacturing of all of its hardwood products. This includes lumber purchases from NHLA affiliated lumber mills in the hardwood regions of the Northern and North Central United States that share the same values on sustainable forestry.
