We can make
countertops or furniture in any wood from ash to zebra so
call for a quote and we will create the counter top or
furnishing of your dreams.
These
are examples of the actual wood with either our clear poly
finish or our mineral oil finish (see Q&A about finish
differences). These are not stained and we do not
offer staining. The colors shown in these pictures are very
accurate but an entire top may have many color variations
through out the top. This cannot be illustrated with a
picture or a sample.

Maple is the standard wood for butcher block. It has
been used for butcher block since the 1890’s because
it is so hard and dense making it perfect for food
preparation. |

Walnut is a favorite
these days for it’s color but it is hard to get clear
heart on the top. You will get some small streaks of
sap wood and the coloration will vary. Minor pin holes
or tiny knots may also appear.
True American hardwoods and countertops made in the
USA. Cherry and Walnut are more than maple, call for
pricing. Lead times are 4-6 weeks.

Cherry Varnique
Cherry is somewhat softer than maple and like
walnut it is hard to get without sap wood. There
may be small sap wood streaks as we try to
illiminate all of it. Pitch pores are also common
in cherry which are little black flecks or streaks
that cannot be avoided and are just part of the
character of wood. Varnique keeps the cherry
fairly light and oil allows it to darken
drastically.

Jatoba
Varnique
Jatoba is an extremely hard wood that has warm
rich tones. It doesn’t have sap wood but some
times the staves that make up the top can vary in
color a lot. This cannot be selected for because
the true color of the wood does not appear until
the finish is applied. Varnique allows for a warm
rich redish brown town and oil will darken the
wood to a deep wine color. Lead times for jatoba
typically run 5-6 weeks unless the top being
ordered is 25x60 or smaller in an oil finish.
Pricing must be quoted and it is a specialty wood
that is higher in price than our standard maple,
oak, and lyptus. |

Red oak is a beautiful wood that will match style in
arts and crafts houses as well as compliment oak
hardwood floors. It is hard but somewhat porous.

Teak

Teak is an exceptional wood that is naturally oily and
therefore it lasts a very long time. It is used on
boats for it’s preservative qualities. It is very nice
in color but not as hard as lyptus, maple, or oak. The
cost is definitely not for the faint of budget.

Below are samples of distressing which is offered on
all woods even the ever popular distressed walnut.

does not change the color of the wood. It
includes dents, artificial worm holes, uneven sanded
edges, screw marks, and burn marks.
